Multi-cultural Pioneers

Su Im loves the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is a fine example of the steadfastness of Saints through out the world. She has blessed the lives of missionaries in providing opportunities for them to enjoy some cultural experiences while in Sydney. We were able to attend a couple of Choir and Orchestra concerts in the Sydney Opera House performed by youth groups from America, New Zealand, and Australia and to watch a Korean Dance Festival. She comes from Korea and like so many of our students she is working on her English as well as music studies. Our English students come mainly from Asia - Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Korea, and Indonesia. Many have studied English for many years in their schools back home but they don't have a lot of opportunities to practice speaking. Professionals like engineers, accountants, teachers, musicians, fashion designers, chefs, and even high school age students and recent graduates come to learn English proficiency and while here if they are willing they learn about Jesus Christ and His plan of happiness. It is always exciting to see the transformation that takes place as one embraces the Gospel. Four of our new converts who were highlighted last month have returned home to their homeland.***************** It is hard for us to see them leave this ideal setting where they are surrounded by member friends and missionaries to fellow ship them and to help them in the Gospel. But, we feel that these are the modern day pioneers. They have embraced the Gospel and instead of leaving their homeland to come to Utah to be with the Saints they are returning to their homelands to share the Gospel with their families and friends. We were counseled in these latter days to strengthen our Stakes, Wards, Branches, and families. These young new members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are ambassadors to their Country. Most of those in our branch are first generation members. Filled with the Spirit of the Lord, through the Holy Ghost they will share the good news of the Lord's Gospel.
