Our work continues as usual we are now capturing about 20,000 images of probate documents a week. Michael was able to get some copies of images of the will and probate on an ancestor of the Rowan line (Michael's paternal mother's family) that had been digitally imaged earlier and had been returned on a CD for the PROV. He was quite impressed to see the finished work. The following describes the process of our work.
Process: original probate documents >> digital image taken at the PROV (Public Records Office of Victoria) in North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia >> indexed, audited for quality >> downloaded unto an external hard drive and shipped to Salt Lake City, Utah >> images taken off of external hard drive and compressed into JPEG images so they can be read on the internet >> information to indexing for Church information (when it goes on line) >> downloaded unto a CD or another external hard drive >> shipped back to the PROV in North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia >> returned to our care for documentation of completion of those records >> given to the director of the project from the PROV who then indexes the information off the CD for their records and patron use age. It is a long process and it was a great to see the finished product. It helped us to appreciate the work that is being done.

This is so interesting. Keeping records in order and documentation is critical. We had a sister come into the initiatory with some Japanese family cards. They dated back to 800 AD. I was thrilled. In checking with the recorder, he told me that we are excepting cards from Japan that far back because they have kept such accurate records. Normally we can only accept down to 1500 AD. Keep up the good work!
