Our holidays began on Tuesday with a trip to the Sydney Temple. What a beautiful place. Peace on Earth, Good Will to Man is felt here at the Temple.
Christmas eve we went window shopping during the day and walked from our place to Queen Victoria Building, down to Paddy Square Market (which wasn't open), and down to Broadway Shopping Center. It took us about 3 hours of walking. We were tired.
We spent the remainder of the day and evening resting and reading our scriptures.
Christmas morning began with us watching the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert with Sissle from Norway. We were able to pick up a copy at the distribution center but we were disappointed that they were out of Christmas Music by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. There has been very little Christmas Music here in Australia, especially music related to the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We did find one radio station that played Christmas Music but it wasn’t for the entire day. Nothing like the 100 hours of Christmas Music we got back home. We forget that most of the world is not like home, many have never even heard of Jesus Christ.

We tell the people about Jesus Christ and His plan of salvation that we might have happiness and return to live with our Heavenly Father. We tell them about the restoration of Christ Church, that in America in 1820, Our Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in answer to his prayer to know which was the right church. He was told to join none of them and that the Lord through him would again restore His Church, the true Church of Jesus Christ again on the earth. On April 6, 1830 the Lord’s church – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was organized and with it all of the Priesthood Power and Authority from God to do His work among man was established.
Now throughout the world men, women, and children have the privilege to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to accept it through faith, repentance, Baptism by immersion, and the laying on of hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost by those holding the authority to do Christ’s ordinance work. We appreciate the right to live where we can worship the Lord as we see fit and to have Christ Church on earth again.
Christmas day was quiet as we opened a couple of presents and prepared food for Christmas Dinner at the Branch Presidents Home. He cooked lamb and pork in a deep pit with hot bricks and invited all of the missionaries and those without families around to join him Christmas night. It was very well attended and the food was delicious. At the end of the day we watched the original Miracle on 34th Street.
The next morning was Boxing Day in Australia – which means a second holiday for shopping, sightseeing, relaxing. I think that is a good idea and we should have it an America. Boxing Day got its name from an old tradition when employers boxed gifts for their workers on the day after Christmas. Plus here in Australia the children get a month off between Christmas and the end of January of the new year. Remember this is summer here. They have year round school but take 2-4 weeks off every few months.
