27th Sept. We arrived in Wellington, New Zealand on a special assignment to train a new Senior Missionary Couple to do digital imaging of ship passenger lists at the National Archives of New Zealand. We had to start completely from the beginning with setting up the camera and room and training Elder and Sister Chadderton who are from a small town north of Hamilton, New Zealand. They are quick learners and will have everything under control by the time we leave Sunday Oct. 5th. The archivist at the National Archives are very excited to have this project going as they have been talking with the head people at the PROV in Melbourne and have heard what wonderful things have been accomplished by the Senior Missionaries and volunteers there. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is will known and recognized for their family history/research support and information. Often times it is the first source recommended by genealogical societies throughout the world.
Since this is a business assignment we won't have time to travel outside the area but we have loved the quaintness of the City and friendliness of the people. We were able to stop at the famous Botanical Gardens having it's tulip festival.
At Church we met two Senior Sisters - Sister Palmer from Kaysville (lives in the 12th ward, Crestview Stake (our former Stake) and Sister Canfield from Layton (just below Hwy 89 and off Oak Dr., we even looked at her home which was for sale back in 2006. Here we are way down south almost as far as you can go before hitting Antarctica and we run into people from our home area. Small World and it just shows that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a world wide Church and reminds us that we are all children of our Heavenly Father. We are blessed and pray all is well with loved ones at home.
